Instablogs - Mobile - Hillary's not as weak a candidate as some would suggest...

We’ve all heard it hundreds of times by now. Hillary Clinton needs to drop out of the race, to make room for Obama, etc. Why is it ignored that Hillary HAS carried the states we NEED to WIN in November?

Why is it ignored that Obama is NOT carrying the support of lower and middle-income Democrats, of Catholics and women? Not to mention more white men are also becoming Hillary supporters lately.

That mainly leaves Obama with blacks and some richer folks in our party known as the elite. These two groups do NOT represent ALL Democrats. And if Obama isn’t carrying them now, he’s NOT going to have their support come November.

The best solution on the part of Democrats was to keep Hillary and Obama TOGETHER on the ticket. This way, their supporters, combined, would give Democrats what they need to WIN in November.

My gut tells me this is not going to happen. I have clearly stated that I will support McCain if Hillary is not on the ticket. Many others will follow suit. McCain will enjoy victory in each and every state that Hillary carried during the primaries. McCain will most likely be our next President of the United States.

But back to main point. I think our superdelegates need to consider Obama’s math problem. It is being said that Hillary’s having the math problem in delegates, but Obama’s math problem is far more fatal. He doesn’t perform in key states. He can’t take NY and CA, they’ll go to McCain (trust me I am from NY). Isn’t the math problem in the general more serious than all else? Doesn’t it matter that he can’t carry the majority of the base all across the country?

I hope the superdelegates aren’t so dumb as to think that Hillary’s supporters are so loyal to the party that we’ll stick with the party regardless of who the nominee is.

We won’t. I won’t. I vote the person, not the party. And this year, I won’t be voting for Obama.

In the fall, when McCain presents himself many who are as frustrated as you are with the railroading of Hillary will see the need to vote for Obama. And Obama will carry all those states that Hillary won because if he gets half of those who voted for Hillary and his own voters, he will beat McCain. And he will go on and be a great president. I know it is hard to see it now but we shall be here four years from now to talk about his landslide reelection for a second term.

I doubt that. Many Clinton supporters are very frustrated with the DNC not making fair decisions regarding MI and FL and this is going to a very different outcome than you think. Perhaps is it wishful thinking on your part. I think the mess will be bigger than you predict and harder to clean up.

What if Hill asks you to vote for Obama? What if she and Bill hits the road and reinvent themselves as Obama’s cheerleaders? You know, for politicians, it is all politics. But for you and I, it is personal.

I honestly don’t think this will happen, but you may be right. However, this goes beyond that for several Democrats. It’s different if Hillary and Obama are on the ticket as a team, this makes all sides happy. But, if they are foolish enough to disappoint Hillary’s supporters, I think that Hillary’s words may not all it takes to fix the damage being done.

I know that you support Obama and that is your right. God bless America for that. However, that Senator Clinton has been badly treated by so many in the press and by the party has not been missed by her supporters.

She deserved all the same opportunities Obama has been given, but it looks like our party has been kicking her to the curb and it’s unfair considering she’s done so much for Democrats for decades.
